AMR#030 (Patch From Scratch) [Eurorack with AUM, iOS/iPad + FX]

The track as an audio file is available at my Bandcamp for free download: Here!

”A practice in playing the modular in an improvised way live. Not a very complex patch but the focus for me here is to play and use the tools in a way that the main mix (going to the audience and the in this case - recording) is not interrupted by weird things that can happen when patching more experimentally (at least for me at this stage). In other words, a practice in playing the modular quite ”safe” in a live context - utilizing the capabilities of AUM and the GAUSS loopers running inside together with the hardware and ”hands on” gear.

Some things about the setup that’s not really adressed in the annotation is that I am using a RME Fireface UCX as audio interface for the iPad. It has 8 inputs and 8 outputs. This enables quite a flexible setup. The pedals on the right, and on top of the RME interface is, Neon Egg Planetarium and Walrus Audio Lore. These are used inside of AUM as send FX and I am adding signal to these from various channels when tweaking the mix. They do delay, reverb and reverse reverb and are not to distinctly used but adds to the whole ambience of the mix.

There is also some other minor things going on inside AUM, a subtle reverb across the whole mix, a little EQ and compression on the output. Also some delay sends to software FX, not anything too critical but just polishing touches.”

The 8 inputs on the RME interface is used like this:
1-2: The output from the modular
3-4: DSI Mopho x4 (going through the Fender Reflecting Pool pedal)
5-6: The return from the Neon Egg Planetarium
7: A ”loose” cable I can patch into the modular to listen to a sound source without having the audience/recording hearing that signal
8: The return from the Walrus Audio Lore

And the 8 outputs are as following:
1-2: The main mix (going to the audience/recording)
3-4: Send to Neon Egg Planetarium
5: Send to Walrus Audio Lore
6: -
7-8: My headphone mix. This is combination of the main mix and anything else I send to this destination - just like a cue mix used by DJ’s.

Gear used:
iPad Pro
RME UCX
DSI Mopho x4
Fender Reflecting Pool Delay & Reverb
Moog Minitaur
Ibanez Delay
Hologram Microcosm
Walrus Audio Lore

The audio/stereo recording from the main output has been mastered.
