"Punch It", Techno jam | Tonverk, Artemis, Digitone 2
Glad to finally be behind the machines again after what feels like forever! Got a bit busy right after the grainer came then I was just sick with the flu for a week so that was grand. Finally managed to get myself to click those power switches and was greeted with the start of a jam I forgot about, so I continued to work on that and ended in this kinda retro, spacey jam. Just started Star Wars Outlaws so it kinda gave me that vibe, hence the name. Details for sickos below:
The main arp is the Tonverk with the grainer, don't remember the sample but some kind of synth. Using the arpeggiator with the grainer can have some really nice sounding results, making the grainer a little more melodically contained but with all the options to transform it still being there. This arp was the start of everything, as I was just listening to a track by Rival Consoles and liked the sound of the reverb swelling, so you'll hear that happen here with the reverb send on an LFO.
The drums are all on the TV as well, with the kick on it's own, snare on its own, and hats on a third track so I can send them to different places/treat differently. Plus the kick is the compressor source (on the mixer channel). Kick and snare are routed through a bus with dirtshaper on it.
Melodies (internal grainer as well as the externals from digitone and artemis) are going through a different bus with a 4 on the floor pump effect via the shaper, allowing me to keep the pumping going even with the kick muted if I want.
The nasty slap bass and retro sounding chords are patches I made quick on the Digitone.
Finally, the Artemis is a bit more humble but its that nice melodic phrase that comes in towards the end of the pattern to bring everything around again.
Coming up on #jamuary soon and I plan on fully committing to that as I do most years, so there will be no shortage of jams from me then! Hopefully I can get one or two more out before that, still have to attempt this months PVC challenge!
