“‘Basalt' emerged from a single evening of live improvisation.
What began as an exploration of texture, rhythm and resonance gradually unfolded into something neither of us felt entirely responsible for creating. The music seemed to arrive on its own terms, as if we were merely conduits for a force moving through the machines, through us, and into sound.
Built from the interaction between granular synthesis, cascading delays, cavernous reverbs and the raw pulse of synthesized drums, these recordings were captured live and remain largely untouched. Every melody, rhythm and transformation happened in the moment, guided by instinct rather than intention.
The EP draws inspiration from coastal landscapes shaped over millennia by wind, water and time. Like stones polished by the sea, each track reveals traces of pressure, erosion and transformation.
Musically, the release drifts between melodic ambient, IDM and fragments of drum & bass, balancing movement and stillness, structure and chance. Granular textures dissolve into rhythmic currents, while evolving melodies surface and disappear like objects glimpsed beneath dark water.
The EP documents a rare moment where improvisation became discovery. Listening back, we often found ourselves asking the same question:
Did we play the music, or did music play through us?”
